A few months ago a photographer asked on the UK forum for participants in a photography project. Of course it is not for everyone and there were some questions to her but I agreed that she could visit me and we’d have a good talk and she’s take photos.
And I must say it was a exceptionally good experience and Meg is genuinely interested in dolls and wants to portray what it means living with dolls. Not for a tabloid but for an exhibition she plans.
Best I quote her from the UK forum
My name is Meg, and I’m a documentary photographer (https://www.mkeagles.co.uk/#0). I am currently working on a personal photography project on love dolls.
I’m currently seeking individuals in the UK who might be interested in participating in my project along with their dolls. The project’s goal is to explore and document the nuanced emotional connections between doll owners and their dolls, emphasising the depth of these relationships over any sensationalist angles. I’ve included some photographs from a recent session with member Arthur1960 (feel free to contact him for a reference! to give you an idea of what I’m aiming for with this project.
I understand that allowing any media access may evoke a range of emotions and considerations, and I want to assure you that my approach is rooted in sensitivity, empathy, and artistic integrity. My goal is to create a safe and respectful environment for collaboration.
As I live in Germany I was not the obvious choice but some other doll owners chimed in and she decided to start her German adventure.
When she arrived we had a very pleasant talk about my dolls, how I started, how I live with them and it turned out that everybody seems to be different and has different stories with the dolls. I also have a few dolls which I deemed beyond repair but cannot muster the courage to dismantle them so they are in an extra room. Meg was very compassionate about them and she took quite a few photos.
Time flew by and it was time for her to leave. She told me that she’d develop the films - yes she was shooting medium format film - and when they are ready she’s send me the photos and also her selection and we could talk about what to use.
Now a few weeks later she contacted me and sent the pictures and I am impressed. I like them a lot and maybe somebody finds this interestion enough to maybe participate also. (no I don’t get any revenue from that)
It was wa first for me and I did have some reservations and did not know what to expect, but Meg was really interested and does not seem to be out for a quick and sensational win, else the photos would have turned out differently.
