These BTS pics are great for so many reasons. people methods are always interesting to see and learn from, but here its the hacks that have impressed me.

Clipping a reflector to a soft box so you dont need a reflector arm. Marvelous!

Putting a dumbell weight down the shaft of the stand instead of a sand bag… Chef’s Kiss!

Nicely done Slayers, and the final pics are freakin awesome!

Oh Snap! We got the flimsy factory welding on the AK8’s back bolt nut.

Undeterred, I set out to solve this dilemma. This is my prototype, I plan to use the basic design on stainless steel.

This will work as long as it’s only used to stabilise and not for lifting. Otherwise it will tilt her head down. It’s very secure, clamped to the neck bolt.

Works awesome, The first test pic is going into our main “Flock” thread.

Ok, I’ve enjoyed this thread so I feel time for a contribution from the technically innept.

This was the final image where it becomes clear the issues of short ears doing the hair of Elves. Namely, like vampires the Fae don’t have a reflection (that of course is why I don’t have a mirror camera ).

These were the steps.

  1. find a suitable background in Google images. I found this image of a bedroom in Rivendell.

  2. Original photo

wierd effect as you cannot see Yvettes blankie in the pic but it was there. That one is one of the original WM blankets that was huge. Nowadays they are like a flannel by comparrison.

  3. Remove Wych Hayzel but leave Sandy exactly as she was and retake the photo

Tut, what a day for Sandy to forget to put her knickers on! In the final pic I blurred out the detail down there.
I can’t find the original folder so one image is missing where I made the background around Sandy in the mirror transparent in the above pic

  4. Change the image in Gimp to make everything in the mirror transparent

  5. Using gimp layer the images making the background layer one, the image without wych hayzel layer 2 and the original pic with the mirror made transparent the top layer

Should probably have sat Sandy on something better than a dolly box and blanket

Yep, I know that its real caveman level technical skills using only free software but what the heck. I got the pic that I wanted where Wych Hayzel has no reflection.

Made a couple refinements. This thing works better than I expected.

Edit:
After using this prototype for a while it has revealed a small flaw. (that’s what prototypes are for) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: The hanging loop is horizontal and would be better suited if it were vertical. When I get some time I’m going to make a new version.

I would like to order a couple of those. :grinning:

You all may one day have as professional of a setup as I.

Why don’t you had joints to tilt the head like you want :

I bet you can make a better prototype than mine :ok_hand:

Think about it :smirk:

That’s awesome @IKE I love your design. :sunglasses: :+1:
I was trying to be as light and un-intrusive on the final image as possible. With the design I came up with, head tilting from side to side is not a problem and as long as the majority of her weight is on her feet the back and forward tilting is very doable as well. It also helps if she has fairly tight neck joints.
:beers:

True. Mine required a bit of photoshop at the end
But with my Angelina with no strenght on her knee and hips. I’m glad that I can still make her stand in my living room :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
… and I can add springs to make her bounce on my lap
