There am I rethinking my opinion about flashes and consider buying some and then you post that simple solution. It might be enough for my use case. Maybe it is more important for me to get some stands and a bigger reflector.
I have a 200W Strobe and 2x 75W speed lights plus associated soft boxes, snoots, modifiers etc, and I’ve found them to be unnecessary unless I want to do dramatic lighting.
A decent Optical Stabilizer (either in lens or On Body) and some large reflectors and small lights just to bring up the ambient levels is often more useful.
Lights with variable temperature are also great so you can match them to the local conditions
I highly recommend the SmallRig P96L light which is what I’m using in the above pics.
Regular stands with reflector claps are useful for basic setups, but a proper reflector arm / boom is needed if you really want to control the positioning fully.

For this picture of Emma i used checkerboard lighting….. black white black white alternating across the photo
It’s actually really simple and easy. 2 backdrops side by side and 2 led strip lights. One to light the white backdrop and one with a strip box attached so that it only puts light where I want it on Emma. The lights are not super bright but im a lazy twat and always shoot with a tripod so shutter speed is irrelevant to me
That’s super cool.
Did you make that pulley system?!
Nice setup. ![]()
