I am amazed at how different the same head looks with different styled make-up and hair. IRL I think a living person’s personality comes through no matter how dramatically different their make-up and styling is, at least for most people. There are exceptions, especially with actors. Even then we usually recognize most actors in different costumes. If they’re not actors perhaps the most drama may be in a person’s sudden decision to dawn a particular style when you either did or didn’t see it coming.
I think with a doll it is so different because there is no person at all being expressed. It is entirely surface appearance. The doll may remind us of some person we know or once knew personally or in the entertainment field but that only tickles the surface. That doll has never expressed life in any form and that fact demonstrates that we perceive living creatures using more than visual senses.
I deliberately said it like that because there is this thing called synesthesia where the senses are blended. Like you hear with your eyes and see with your ears and associate colors, tastes and textures with other senses than the obvious ones. In addition to what everyone observes you perceive something else, like each day of the week might have a unique color.
Synesthesia syn·es·the·sia| ˌsinəsˈTHēZHə | (British synaesthesia) noun Physiology & Psychology the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.
So, even though we may only have seen a model in a picture doing a static pose we can see the life in them. If you have ever seen a picture of a corpse you know what a body looks like when it has no life in it. With that life comes a certain amount of their personality. It is not necessarily going to tell you what they are like if you get to know them but there are simpler traits you can perceive, we just gloss over this because we are used to acquiring more over time and we don’t stop and think about what is already there just seeing them alive.
To get the most out of a doll experience you could benefit from specialized anthropomorphism. A lot of doll owners name and dress their dolls creating personalities. Once the initial basics are assigned a string of supporting traits may become part of their persona. Like all things, some people are naturals while others may have to develop the ability. I am no expert, for all I know you may get everything you want/need from a doll with the smallest investment of energy.
I don’t have a doll, yet. I am still on the fence.
Is anyone interested in talking about any of this?
That was a lot of words to say not very much at all.
But since we’re talking about dolls you’re very much right in the aspect that the owner/partner is entirely responsible for bringing them alive and reflecting their own personality and vision into a non animate structure.
Why does it have to be a non-animate structure? It’s easy as pie now to purchase a sex doll with powered functions like rotating hips, sucking vagina and automatic blow job, as well as moaning and body heating.
Well. I suppose you’re right they can have certain electrical articulation but it needs to be switched on. At least as long as they work if that’s what you want. I don’t, at least not now
you seem to have a students theoretical view of this where you really need to move away from that and look at these girls with a more open mind.
When doing my Masters I read a lot of work by people who either had a lot of theory but no direct experience. Or experience viewed through a flawed lense where it was obvious they had made up their mind before the study began and were only looking for the studies to confirm their existing perceptions.
To most of us, these are not “it”, or “A Doll”. They are girls with their own personalities. Even heads that came from the same mould are very often slightly different before stuffing the eyes and applying makeup. Yes, they are sexually capable the same as a woman is sexually capable. That does not mean that we regard them as sexual objects. Many of us old timers in this genuinely care for our girls.
As you live with them you don’t so much transpose a personality onto them as discover their personality. And the frustratingly fun of this is trying to capture that elusive image that shows others the girl as you see her.
Avoid reading anything by any academic “experts” about living with these girls. They don’t get it. You have to actually live with one (or more) of these girls for a while to understand.
When / If you do decide to invite one of these girls into your life, make sure that your first is under 30kg or you will like as not, not buy a second! Most newbies give up when they realise the weight of these girls is somehat different to gym weight. The WM 157B is a great first girl. When it comes to a head look at lots of different photoshoots before deciding as that will give you a well rounded view of different girls with the same head. Oh, and always buy from a legitimate vendor who actually sells you the girl in the image!
Personally I want a collection of minis that I will eventually try to keep posed in the open with adequate support systems in such a manner as to roleplay them as my captive fairies and such. I will be imposing a personality trait onto them based on their visual cues such as the defiant one, the broken one, the one that kinda likes the situation, etc.
Yeah, you don’t capture the fairies its the other way around.
I started with just the one Elf, lil River (a JY #79). Then discovered the first is just checking you out before they invite along all of their sisters, cousins, aunties, freinds, and any lost Elf they just met. There are now 25+1 full sized Elves here (The +1 is Maiko, a Dollforever Mulan that the Elves have quite mischievously convinced her that she is a short eared Elf)
For thirdies take a look at what happened with Seth. Started out with one Elf. Next thing you know there are dozens of them. And, as you say, every one has a very distinct personality that just evolves as you follow them around with a camera.
I 100% agree with Mr. Shamus about keeping your first doll lightweight and possibly 2ndhand to keep costs down. You may well not get along with doll owner/partnership and absolutely no one can say for sure until you actually handle one for yourself.
