Doll owners be aware of vanity sizing in the recent years

So I am an active clothing shopper for clothes for my doll (like most doll owners). I have just recently started digging deeper into clothing measurements and am trying to figure out what is wrong with, for example, Walmart and Target and their new “XXS” sizing.

I have been actively shopping for clothes at these store for going on two years now. XXS just recently appeared. At first I was like “thank god, better for the doll” but, upon looking on reddit’S r/XXS thread, I have found out that today’s women’s XXS was last year’s XS. It is called vanity sizing. Alot of women with “doll bodies” (I.e. 23-24in waist) can no longer nicely fit into clothes from stores that promote vanity sizing. Extra small used to match their true extra small waists. Now XXS starts at a 26 in waist.

Clothing stores do this as a marketing feat to tend to the women with bigger measurements. They make them feel better because they’re truly a, say, XL but with vanity sizing, voila, you’re a medium now! This makes it much harder for us and the true - xxs ladies to shop for true-fit clothing at these stores.

Please keep measurements in mind when purchasing clothing and always be prepared to return it If you went the online shopping route.

That’s interesting, thanks for the info.

Good advice!

We always shop with measurement for each girl saved in our phone and a cloth tape measure (Tailor’s Tape).

Not only do you have vanity sizing but you also have a lack of conformation over the different brand names. A pair of Levi size 8 will not have the same measurements as a pair of Jordache size 8.

Most online shops display a measurements table and I’ve found those to be reasonably accurate in most cases. However, I have had a few garments come in and even when labed XS/0-2, they measure out more like M/4-6. I carry tables for each of my dolls in my wallet just in case I’m tempted to buy something off the rack. It helps. Also, I find that store personnel at big chains seldom know anything about their stock whereas if you go to a specialty boutique the clerks are consistently knowledgeable regarding sizes, measurements, and garment care.
