I’ve been searching and can’t seem to find a good thread on wig maintenance and care. I have a few piper wigs and a tangle teezer hairbrush. It takes a long time to brush my girl’s hair. What products are safe to put in our wigs? Any detanglers you guys use?
I use a detangler/leave in conditioner spray made for synthetic wigs (I can’t remember the name of it at this moment). It works and smells great. I also use a wide toothed comb rather than a fine toothed comb or brush.
The biggest thing is handling the wig with care to avoid tangles in the first place, which will reduce tangles and the need for brushing etc.
Some tips:
-
Take wig off of the doll when dressing, moving/posing, bathing etc.
-
Whenever you remove the wig, handle it gently and place it in a way that reduces the likelyhood of tangles by hanging it or putting it on a stand. Don’t store it loose. If you won’t be using it for some time, carefully put it back in the wig net and bag it came in for storage, if you do not have wig stands etc.
-
Have a “beater” wig to use on the doll during sex/bed time, this is when the wig will most likely get tangled etc.
I haven’t really had any longer wigs till recently and that spray is nice… slicks up the hair abit so it’s easier to comb and smells great ( got the cocoa lime version)
also wig hangers help keep them in good shape
@badocaster put me on to those
Yes, what I have is similar to that. Same idea, different brand. It does really work well to assist in brushing.
For synthetic wigs one of the best things I found is Snuggle fabric softener. I put about an ounce in a spray bottle and add 4-5 ounces of water, spray the wig down to the point of saturation paying extra attention to the underneath hair , then gently comb out any tangles and let the wig dry . My favorite scent is Lavender & vanilla orchid the scent can last for over a month. It makes the hair soft, less likely to tangle and even helps cut down on static electricity. (the cause of hairs sticking to their face) plus only cost pennies per spray bottle.
WARNING It wont take long to start associating the smell with your gal and you could find yourself getting aroused by the smell of a fabric softener just as if it was her favorite perfume
Slayers I like that idea alot! That must be very immersive. It’s amazing how the lust our dolls give off amplifies just from things as miniscule as spraying a fabric softener mix into her hair. I would say that wig maintenance is one of the more tedious things we as doll owners have to do. But I love putting her in my lap and brushing her hair out. Very immersive!
I have 30+ wigs, ranging from anime style curly pigtails to MILF pixie cuts. I store the wigs in ziplock bags when not in use. I rarely use a detangling spray, but I do use shampoo for curly wigs, and wig shine. I wash the wig only if I use a lot of hairspray or gel in styling. I buy cheap wigs from AliExpress, and if one gets too mangled, I will toss it without remorse, but that hasn’t happened in the year I’ve been handling wigs.
For straight and wavy wigs:
Using a wide tooth comb, and with a wig misted with water, shake out the wig, then grip the wig at the top, and starting at the ends (the tips; the free ends at the bottom), comb through the hair. Comb out the final couple inches to start, and don’t move upward until the ends are clear. Work your way a couple inches at a time up the wig, combing from your work area to the ends; if a new tangle forms, gently work that out before continuing.
Once the wig is combed through, mist it with wig shine. For a long, wavy wig, this might take me 10 minutes from bag to doll head.
For curly or frizzy wigs
When new, I wash these with curly wig shampoo, the rinse. While wet, I put them on a wig stand, with the ends on a table, so the weight doesn’t pull out the curl (put a towel on the table - much water will collect). I do not comb these wigs, but I will use wig shine. If over time, these wigs form too many stray hairs (ie, a curly wig looks frizzy), I’ll wash it again, and carefully comb, sometimes only with fingers, sometimes with a comb, the wig back into shape, as with straight wigs, but less thoroughly.
Does anyone know if lace-melting sprays harm silicone?
