Kim’s new body+head is very similar to the old design in which her soul currently resides, so a full review isn’t really necessary; but she was definitely worth the extra £150, and here is my take on the differences:
Gel breasts. These have to be fondled to be believed
Whoever manufactures these dolls for Kimber Doll has done an excellent job. Same size as always (British DD), but they feel so much better; worth getting your hands on
Shrugging shoulders. She can now wear bra straps properly
More posable for photography or unusual sex positions if either are your thing.
Hinged neck joint. They don’t advertise this, but she now has a proper neck joint like the higher end brands, same as the one in Azrael (WM) or Carmen (Zelex). The head has the usual M16 thread and a stock hollow threaded tube is supplied; you can also fit quick-connectors and the ball-joint mounts that some people are selling, as well.
Improved body sculpt. They don’t advertise this, but new Kimber has a slightly thicker waist, another 2 in / 5 cm circumference, so regular sized clothes fit her better.
Improved face make-up. They don’t advertise this, but while the head sculpt is the same, she looks less cartoony and more realistic, due to a much improved make-up job.
Articulated fingers. The most waited-for improvement over the standard model; only hinged, no ball joints, but still a very welcome improvement. Now she’ll be able to hold a real smartphone in my photographs
Cost in the UK is £649 plus shipping, compared to £499 plus shipping; the box size is the same and so is the shipping cost. The box is marked PRO-158, whereas the standard model box is marked KD-FS-158.
Once I have done a photo-shoot of them together, I’ll re-home ‘old’ Kim. Bast will no doubt complain about having to do yet another Cosmic Soul Transference Ritual ™, but she’s a cat, so she’s always complaining anyway
The previous time ^^
There is a ‘bad’ in this review, but not for the doll herself; it’s for XPO Logistics, Kimber Doll’s warehousing and shipping agent in the UK. Their website is quite fancy, and they big themselves up somewhat; but in reality they appear to be a business-to-business company who seem unused to shipping to domestic premises, and their procedures need tightening up anyway.
First, there is the extortionate shipping cost; if you live on the same latitude as Norwich, Birmingham, or Aberystwyth, it’s £69; if you live in Scotland, it’s £169! UPS will charge around £50 anywhere in the UK except the really remote areas of the country.
When I bought Kim in December 2022, she was left in the warehouse when the van departed. The warehouse manager grovelled and said it was at one-off occurrence and I’m inclined to believe him, but I still had to wait another week for her as I couldn’t reschedule my work week at the time and he (or his boss) wasn’t prepared to give me any form of expedited delivery in restitution.
When I bought Kim 2, the driver was off sick on the day she was supposed to be delivered. This has no excuse; any company operating at the scale of XPO should have resilience for things like that; if I went off sick, my boss could cover me for tech stuff and the Big Boss could for softer skilled work. They seem to hire any random man-with-a-van for household deliveries, rather than using their fleet. So I wrote them a strongly worded email pointing this all out, and in the end they arranged a same-day delivery with another private man-with-a-van, and to be fair, probably at great cost to themselves. They guy they sent was polite, friendly, and thoroughly professional. So in the end I did get her on time, but it could all have been avoided.
XPO really needs to have RFID tagged stock control and computer scan at the exit gate with a bill-of-lading crosscheck. They also need to understand that if they warehouse for companies selling directly to end-users, they need a better delivery mechanism. Indeed, Zelex has already copied Kimber Doll’s marketing model for their SLE series; if XPO got it right, they could vye for future business from doll manufacturers intending the same.
