My WM170H TPE doll, bought in Feb 24, has rough skin on her hands. I definitely put her to work, but she’s not a carpenter . It’s most visible in the photo on that back index finger, but each of her fingers and the sides of her hands are like this.
What are some possible causes? Any remedy?
I’ve tried dousing with mineral oil and gently scraping, in case it’s powder buildup. I rubbed & scraped for a minute or two, but the oil basically remained clear.
I’ve tried soap and water, and that seemed to help, if not completely, but it came back after a couple weeks.
I’ve tried melting the skin and dabbing it with 120 grit sandpaper, and that did melt the small bits, but the fingers are so thin that I run the risk of mutilating them.
In my opinion it looks very much like abrasion burn caused by rough clothing (like sweater sleeves), my girl Elina (now 5yrs old) has it on one of her wrists. Sadly there isn’t a quick fix apart from the heat treatment and gentle smoothing with the back of a tea spoon or similar. As she is almost new it could well be a softer and more delicate tpe. Leonora, my Firedoll, now almost two years old, is of a much softer blend. Sorry I couldn’t be more positive. If you have a pair of old tights or stockings, cut the foot off and place these over her hands before removing or replacing clothing as protection
Thanks for chiming in. The weird part is that the rough bits are also between the fingers, which you wouldn’t expect to suffer much friction. I replace this door, but if it does show up again, the idea of heating a spoon instead of applying the heat directly is a good one
What I would try is very diluted acetone in baby oil, and try to paint on a very small amount of the mixture. I would test it out first on an insert, but it worth a shot. I am aware of heat on fingers will likely melt them badly.
