SE X-Bot AI Head is now live — meet Annika🤖

We’re excited to officially introduce SE X-Bot, SEDOLL’s first AI companion head.

SE X-Bot is SEDOLL’s first AI companion head, starting with Annika. It combines deep conversation, lifelike facial expressions, and realistic silicone craftsmanship to create a more responsive companion experience.

This is our first step toward exploring how a doll can move beyond static beauty and begin to listen, respond, and feel more present.

I wanted to congratulate you on the progress you have made this far. I have thought for years now that the head was the most natural place to start. Because of the expressiveness, as you mentioned. But also… practicality.

Small enough, light enough, and affordable enough to be a solid Step 1. Useful all by itself. And also, has the versatility to be placed on a stand, on a table, for natural interaction. Thus LOTS of places you can locate it. But also able to be placed on a doll body, for greater impact and realism. All good applications.

The movements of the eyes seem quite good… side to side and i assume up & down? Also the lids do open and close (partly?), and the mouth can be seen to move. All good. But my PRIMARY interest was to see it smile… and I certainly READ about that ability enough times. Ha ha. But… I never have seen it smile.

Could you either post that here, or post a link? Because I’ve been looking, and I have missed it.

So if one has been “sent out for testing” @sed02, that suggests this is still in a Prototype stage? And not yet ready for us to buy one?

I think there may be a misunderstanding about the price — it’s $1,499. :eyes:

:loudspeaker: SE X-Bot Series Update

We would like to announce an important update regarding the SE X-Bot series.

:cross_mark: Customization Update

Customization options for the SE X-Bot series will be discontinued in order to ensure more stable production quality and faster delivery.

All current standard configurations have been carefully optimized by our team to maintain consistent quality and performance.

Thanks for that. Of course I checked it out immediately, due to my high level of interest.

That is quite informative:

  • each eye can be open, or wink (half-closed), independently or together
  • neither eye can fully close, so no napping
  • the eyes can move together, left or right
  • but the eyes can’t move up or down
  • the mouth can be closed, or slightly open
  • the “smile” is quite subtle. with a minimal rise at the ends
  • and the smile has no more teeth showing than the open position

One other thing I did see in another video, but not here, was the head itself actually moved to the left & right. Did that get omitted here? Or was that ai-generated in the other video? I had assumed that was the reason for the more elaborate neck attachment assembly… to give the head a range of lateral motion.

(and if it was left out, why? One would think you’d like to show off every impressive capability it had.)

It is really nice to see these advancements being made. However, we as customers are not clearly being shown what is and isn’t currently possible. If you want people to actually buy these, so you can get them out in the field and collect user feedback, you can’t be leaving unanswered questions. I for one am a potential customer. But I wouldn’t buy one until I knew what it could do, and could NOT do. I.e., I won’t buy one to find out.

I’m guessing as you add more DoF to the head, we will see things like head tilt to the sides… which is a very natural positioning. But please work on simpler things like making it possible for the eyes to move up, and down, first. (and close!) I am actually a bit surprised that isn’t already in this version.

[My honest initial assessment… I have wanted a doll face that could smile for a long time. And this isn’t it. :slightly_frowning_face: Yet. ]

Thanks for promptly sharing this updated information.

First off, your blog is not clear what “customization” you are now terminating. Since I have read everything I could find on the new Annika head, I believe this is a reference to previously promised EXTENSIVE customization options. Far beyond what normal customers would be interested in (or willing to pay for). I.e., changes that business customers might want to make, for their own, unique, customized version.

If that is the case, I would agree with you that it makes sense for you to focus FIRST on getting your own version optimized. There will be time for the second phase later.

But perhaps I am wrong? If you’re talking about simple things, like skin color, eye colors, and hair, then I think that is a mistake. I can’t see any of those things causing delays in production. Unless your goal is to simply make ONE configuration, and keep it in stock… with NO customization of any kind?

I really feel you have not explained WHAT customizations you are now discontinuing. :slightly_frowning_face:

[Oh! And are the eyelashes really PAINTED on? On a Silicone head? That right there is a NO SALE for me:

Honestly, that makes no sense (to me). And the eye color is: “random”? That’s bizarre. At least I can easily change the hair, if I want. But how easy is it to change the eyes? My guess is: NOT easy, since they move! So no standard eyes will be compatible. But perhaps you can provide compatible ones for the User to change?

SUGGESTION: If so, just put extra color eyes in the box with each head. Then you can maintain (stock) just a single SKU. And the owner can still have what they want.

And BTW, Default is misspelled. ]

One other BIG thing the blog post discussed very publicly, for the first time… subscription fees. :scream:

I read a LOT of different postings on the new head (everything I could find), and on MOST of them, there was never ANY mention of such fees. Then I DID find one, with a single small line (in gray) that disclosed them. That woke me up! :astonished: Later on I found a more prominent single line elsewhere, that confirmed it. But this has a full discussion, which is good.

So in that sense I am glad to see you being more open and forthright about this additional expense. It is NOT a $1500 animated/interactive head…

it is a $1500 head with a $600/year subscription fee! That turns into a dead head the month after you stop paying.

Now is this a deal-breaker? I don’t know! Ha ha. I am sure for some it won’t be, and for others it will. But to me, it is important that people KNOW this in advance… BEFORE they buy the head, and find out later. Call it full disclosure.

[But not MUCH later… I read ahead in the instructions about activating your new head, and to do that requires setting up an account, and providing billing info. So people will find it out pretty quickly, after they get their new head. :grimacing: And now they will know before they buy the head.]

It’s worth noting that RosemaryDoll (as one example I am aware of… there may be others) has this head for sale… with NO mention of any later fees being required. Hopefully they will correct that quickly… or they will wind up with a lot of heads being returned after 30 days. (not mentioning such fees pre-sale, then imposing them post-sale, would be considered fraud here in the US.)
