Tayu 148 Head Base Repair

So a while ago I had the base of my Tayu head rip. That’s the part where the head connector goes into:

Don’t ask me why I opted for a rectangle head connector, I guess I wanted to see what that was all about.

I was initially told to pour the 2 part glue that Tayu sent to me, the gars sent to me kept leaking due to high altitude pressure while en route. 3rd time was the charm, the only issue was that they failed to mention that the glue cures in minutes lol. Before I knew it, I had a cup of super hard glue in it that was unusable. I decided to tale the L and not bother my vendor anymore.

I recently got Eva out for a quick shoot and realized that I really missed shooting her so that got me thinking… How can I fix this darn head?

Today I thought of trying something with no glue, so this is what I came up with:

I got the metal plate out.

Did an outline with +/- 0.5 cm on a stainless steel plate.

Gloves, eye protection, dremel and other tools and off I go cutting.

Hey, it doesn’t have to look fancy, it just has to work! Besides, drilling and cutting stainless steel is NO JOKE!

Installing everything.

Put the final original plate back on, give it a quick wash…

And my Eva is ready for a shoot tonight.

The idea here was to kinda clamp the base and also give it a larger surface area. I hope it holds, but I this the neck is getting tighter so I will probably remove the head every time I want to change its’ position.

Let’s see if this holds…

Wish me luck! :crossed_fingers:

hope the fix is permanent, but I had to admit that a doll this expensive should not have these kind of problems. I havent’ ever heard anything like this before from any manufacturer.

Haha yeah! I had to go out and get a couple of drill bits because my normal metal ones were just NOT working.

Thanks Fix! :+1:

Many thanks DC!

Thanks! I do agree, although I did put her through the paces. They have since changed the neck design but I think the main culprit is the older rectangle head connector.

It seems her neck is getting stiffer with every move so that combined with her skeleton getting looser at the hips I made the decision that this was going to be her last mini shoot.
