Thanks so much for your impressions, Doc. So glad that your friend Roberto, and Karen are getting along so, ahem, rabbitily?
Yes for sure, what you wisely said about imperfection of all things in the human world applies, well, to everything?
I was going to take advantage of the promo offer with Tayu, but decided to do the fiscally responsible thing, and defer that purchase until a later date, but will definitely keep Roberto’s experiences in mind.
Greetings, JustDude! I’m trying to follow that wise and ancient Toaist adage, “Buy nice or buy twice”, so I’m trying to talk myself into investing in a Tayu 148A. I’m hoping you can answer a question for me.
I see you have the Noy face (my fav, shared with Katniss), and I see you have both the 148D and the 158D bodies. My question: Does the Noy head look OK on the 148D body?
She looks on the small side where attached to your 158D. I mean, she’s still gorgeous and perfect and still within normal human size range, but I prefer my petite dolls to have slightly larger heads than what’s common in the industry, just a personal thing.
Any feedback is much appreciated, and double if you had a photo. The doll is a little too pricey to take a chance on.
Tayu is definitely too pricey to gamble on. Unfortunately I don’t have to take a pic with my Noy head on the 148D body because: a) I have a rectangle head connector on the 148 body and a round head connector on the 158D body and b) I know the Noy head would look too big on the 148 body.
Fortunately, Tayu have different sized molds for most/ if not all heads depending on what body you choose. I’m 90% sure Tayu have a smaller Noy head mold for exactly this occasion!
This means you’ll have to contact a Tayu verified vendor to confirm if they do indeed have a smaller Noy mold.
So glad you folks opened shop! A welcome alternative to the stodgy, old (from the last century), restrictive, pastel-blue place. I look forward to posting some images soon, photos of my sweet angels that were less-than-welcomed elsewhere. Hoping you thrive in this time of booming doll appreciation!
And thanks for the response— what community is all about!
This point you made bears repeating, because it’s one of the many details that sets Tayu apart— they make the same head in 2 sizes to fit various size dolls. I have never heard of ANY other maker offering that. So smart and so easy with digital tech.
Unfortunately, few folks seem to know that Tayu offers this due to the ‘Black Box’ nature of typical Chinese marketing. Months ago, I read that they offered two sizes for the Peach and the Katniss heads, but no one was ’sure’ about any others. Imagine a world where you could be ’sure’ about a doll Makers’ products just by visiting the Makers’ website? What a fine world that would be! (hint hint, Tayu)
Here in the US, finding a “Tayu verified vendor” is not a simple task— few vendors sell Tayu, and those that do are often very small and don’t have a close relationship with the company. Sadly, ‘annoying little questions’ with no guaranteed sale at the end, when asked by a small US vendor, often get ignored. At least, that’s been my limited experience. But I will soldier on!
I was just trying to explain this Tayu head size option to my local, small vendor, and even he was trying to correct me that “smaller heads are for 130cm dolls and below”. Nothing speaks like a visual, so here’s an OFFICIAL photo I found a while ago of the two sizes of Katniss heads.
Welcome to the forum @PuppyTamer. Your forum description is the reason we are here. A fresh new place without politics and drama. We hope you enjoy your stay and good luck with your Tayu research.
Alice at My Robot Doll would be the vendor to use that speaks directly w Tayu. I learned this after I ordered mine from Silicone Lovers and was a bit frustrated with the communication. Tayu’s new website is much better! I will post a thread w pics of my 148D Ivy unboxing in a week or so…and hoping the Ivy head looks correctly proportioned and the 30% softer silicone feels amazing…doubt the realistic skin texture will be on this one.
Hi Woolie— Yah, MRD has a great rep, I’ve only bought smaller things from them so far—I’ll keep them in mind. I don’t know how any of the small vendor can stay 100% knowledgable about all the tiny product details specific to each brand: 1) All vendors sell so many brands these days. 2) It’s a moving target, the details change sometimes monthly for many makers. All the more reason I think maker’s should evolve their marketing strategies to be more like the auto makers. If I want a new Nissan, I’m gonna go to the Nissan corporate site and find all the deepest details on the cars and they will be authoritative, inclusive and current. Then I will go BUY the car from my local dealer. We’re already seeing more of that with some larger makers. But then you mentioned Tayu: While better, their site is still woefully incomplete. E.g., so outdated, they only include two of their four skintones on the site!
Oops, my bad. You are referring to the NEW Website Update, which I just noticed yesterday. Yes, the site is looking much better!
And KUDOS! Tayu is the first maker that I’m aware of that has published the HEAD SIZE CIRCUMFERENCE for all their models. Much appreciated by us tech weenies!
Yes and Tayu’s communication at least with the introduction of the NOVA series seems greatly improved. Wondering if you’ve considered that material? My Ivy is still in a box and I hope to be picking her up in a couple weeks… unfortunately life circumstances seriously altered my doll hobby but once I get them all in one place I’ll do some pics and become more active here!
I started as a TPE man, dedicated through and through. But after I nervously bought my first silicone doll, I said to myself, wow, this is superior in almost every way! (except the price). No going back. (Purely my subjective opinion, of course!)
But it sounds like TAYU is advancing the technology (as usual) with their silicone-like multi-stage process, so respect to them! I’ll be watching to see how it goes.
