Waist to Hip Ratio - comparing dolls to pornstars

I’ve been looking at dolls again (big shock, because we never do that, right?) and I made myself a spreadsheet to collect my initial “this looks cool” list. Ended up with 30 dolls on the list, which I’ll eventually trim down. This time around, I’m looking at dolls roughly in the 130-150cm range (and in the 30kg or less range, because goddamn my current doll is heavy at 40kg lol)

Because I had a spreadsheet with all the specs of the dolls in them, I figured I’d do some light number crunching on them. The big thing I was looking at? Waist to hip ratio. I’ve long mused on this and what makes it attractive. There’s been some science around this, of course, but it’s also a question of what I find attractive.

Pursuant to this, I decided I’d look up a couple of pornstars from my collection. No rhyme or reason other than “hey, okay, I recognize that name and she’s hot” from a few minutes looking at filenames. When I put them next to the dolls, I found something interesting:

Notes on the table: Bolded names are real porn stars. Italicized names are “owned” dolls - Jennie belongs to @LGJ, and @Miho’s unnamed doll is his. Lena is my 6YE 161D.

The list above is sorted by waist:hip ratio, and it’s interesting to note that every pornstar I found attractive, no matter what their height (ranging from 137cm for Luna Bright to 190cm for Olivia Madison) fell below that “magical” waist:hip of 1.5.

Now, if we look at the dolls, basically 2/3rds of the ones I initially chose (19 of 30) are above that 1.5 number. Only 6 are in among the real pornstars, and only 11 are under the 1.5 number. I couldn’t tell you what a standard deviation is, but 16 are within a waist:hip of 1.45-1.55 - which seems like an interesting thing to note. This is pretty much the same as the range from bottom to top of the pornstars, except for the two outliers (mentioned below.)

Obviously, a thinner waist means weight savings, but some of them are pretty extreme - 2.21 at the high end. By comparison, there’s very little near the low end as far as dolls go - there’s no way I’d be able to handle one, but even Starpery’s BBW dolls clock in at 1.27 for the 168H and 1.23 for the 161H, which doesn’t beat out the real women. Incidentally, these would be comparable to Lelu Love, who I’d definitely call a “chubby” model, and Hailey Rose, who isn’t chubby - but has surprisingly small hips I guess?

What’s the point of this post? I dunno, but it seems like something interesting to take note of. I figure that some folks like the “fantasy” sculpts - that’s a term I’ve seen tossed around before. I imagine some people (like me) are settling for something that might be a bit less desirable due to weight. Maybe others only go for the realistic sculpts - which from what I’ve seen, tend to be more in the 160cm+ range, so those dolls wouldn’t show up on this list.

Discuss, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice write up. I usually shop with my eyes. Butt shape, breast shape and size, thigh gap and body detail.

I admit, I’m mostly shopping with my eyes, but playing with these numbers helps organize my thoughts - they can get me to take a second and more critical look at a doll, rather than “don’t think, spend”

For example, that SY doll at the end of the list looks pretty good in pictures, even if she’s a bit short and midget-y. With closer examination of the numbers though, I could touch fingers around her waist… nearly with one hand. The pictures I’ve found so far really don’t really accentuate the waist, but I can see how thin it is now that I’m looking carefully. She wasn’t exactly at the top of the list, but she’s off it now.

I’d have eventually figured it out without the waist:hip ratio, of course, but I probably would’ve been too busy shopping with my eyes to really look until she’d made the short shortlist (of shortys…) - the pictures really are quite well done to my unpracticed eye.

I agree that a higher level photo sets can accentuate certain features of a doll, and hide the less desirable ones. A good example is the dolls that have legs that are too long relative to the torso length. You may not notice that in the polished photo sets on the manufactures website.

I was / am fascinated with the waist to hip ratio. I think it is interesting that men will generally cluster to the center of the bell curve, most have the same preference for the curvy figure “Goldilocks zone”
Having such a large variety of doll sculps to choose from, forces manufactures to explore ratios away from the center of the bell curve. We all win with an amazing selection of “fantasy” sculpts. When I was new to dolls, the realistic sculpts were my only interest. After a few years in the doll hobby, the fantasy sculpts have increasing interest from me.
Another observation, from one of my own dolls, the SM136A. The waist to hip ratio is high, but when you look at her straight on, it doesn’t look that dramatic. The skinniness of her waist is a little more from front to back, from her belly button to her spine, more so than when viewed from the front. I know I’m splitting hairs, just another consideration.
My SM136A doesn’t have a bubble butt, but this could skew the numbers on a different doll sculpt. Forcing us to fall back on our trusty eyes to decide if we like it.
Thanks for the interesting post @anon4231 :beers:

Just wanted to reply to this specifically, and say that it’s far from splitting hairs. I’d have sworn I wrote this, but it must have been in a previous draft or chatting on Discord - I like thick women, but I like them wide rather than deep (so to speak.) So a nice wide waist is good, but I’m not down a beer gut. It’s a valuable distinction to make, and it’s one of a couple of downsides to using waist:hip ratio as the sole decider.

I’d be interested to hear the measurements of your SM 136A - the SM 136 on my list is one of only two dolls that break 2 waist:hip, so I’m wondering if yours does too - looks like she might.
