Wig size question?

I have a 140cm Ariel Piperdoll. I want to get her some of the irokebijin wigs, would the 120cm/128cm wigs or the 148cm/155cm wigs fit her better?

Welcome to the forum @Loppugod Nice to have you here! :+1:

Loppugod, did you get an answer to your query?

April-May is a 140cm Piper Ariel and she has a massive wig addiction.
We haven’t purchased irokebijin wigs before, sticking mainly to Arda cosplay wigs and various thrifting finds.

We alter all our wigs, for all our dolls, as the human sizes are not compatible with the Piper form.

Happy to chat about wigs or Pipers anytime!

I recently bought the 148cm/155cm head, so I bought a lot of wigs with it. The wigs “fit” but if you move the hair you can see that wig cap thing. It definitely does not fit perfectly. I have to tighten the wigs to the max and the short hair wigs dont look good on my 140cm ariel. I recommend buying the 120/128cm head for those size wigs. Because the stpe head is bigger in general because of its oral function. Ill probably do that next year. I dont feel like wasting any more money on the wigs right now. But im also trying to see if theres a way to shrink the wig cap. Ill let you know later.

I forgot to mention the my ariel 140cm piperdoll is silicon, so the head is slightly smaller than the tpe version.

Hi @Loppugod There are options to make wigs fit better as most wigs for sale on the various sites ie; Temu, Shein and Ali are made for actual human heads. If you have access to a sewing machine there is a fairly simple solution, Running a seam or two inside the cap from the bottom back to the crown can effectively shrink the wig size. I have done this several times with pretty good results. If I get a chance later I’ll post a pic.

I ran two seams on this particular wig. This one is Serenity’s wig. I have done a single (larger) seam on another wig. Devina’s wig has the single seam.

(Slaps forehead) Now, why didn’t I think of that? I really need to get a sewing machine, or just learn to hand sew better I suppose.

Mr Fix It has a great solution.

Here’s the one I use.

I basically cut out two sections on either side of the wig, and resew.

With the wig turned inside out, I want to remove this section on each side:

Cut that section out carefully, ensuring you do not cut the wefts. I also try to maintain as much of the internal ribbing as possible and try cut only one rib.

This is all I need to remove from each side:

It will look like this when trimmed:

Then just pin the open ends together:

And a few minutes of hand sewing to sew the open ends together and sew in the wefts and ribs for completeness:

Now it fits the smaller head of this 140cm Piper Ariel (TPE):

All this with just a pair of scissors, a needle & thread, and basic hand stitching skills.

Ah man, good tips here. Guess I’ll have to order some cheap wigs to test this out. Who tought those sewing lessons in school could actually be useful someday  (not that I remember much as my grandmother used to ‘help’ with my sewing homework)
