How did your dolls get their names?

How did you come up with the names for your companions? Was it a drunken stumble , a memory , maybe from a song etc. I would love to hear your stories.

Isabella got her name from the place where I found her. The name was there, she looked amazing to me, and I really like her name. It’s not a name I hear often around here, and I like ā€˜special’ names.

For a while I thought of calling her Annabel, but Isabella has a better ring to it for me, and so it was Isabella.

In a few days, if all goes well, I can share another name, but that’s still under wraps so pretend I didn’t say this.

There are quite a few stories how I found the names of my girls. When ordering I thought what kind of nationality she could be, what are common and beautiful names and then I found it.

Natalia, my cool russian lady working as translator for some undisclosed company decided to quit her job and stay with me… From Russia with love…

Mariko is one where I did not have to search too long. In the 80s there was the tv series Shogun about medieval Japan and one of the main characters and my crush was Mariko and I knew that one day Iā€˜d have my ow Mariko. Her twin sister Yuriko was a bit more difficult. It should be similar yet different

Finding Linas name was not that easy. It had to be chinese but with a little help from AI I finally found her name.

Somehow it takes some thinking but then the name is set. Of course there were dolls where this did not work and it took some time when they already were here until I found their name.

OMG Yes, Shogun! I knew I wasn’t the only one to have a crush on Mariko…

Wonderful names, wonderful stories. Thank you.

I usually decide what nationality the doll is going to be then I look through lists of names associated with that nationality.

My first doll Harper - actually because I’m a harmonica player and we call ourselves ā€˜harpers’.

Sometimes the doll has arrived and she just ā€˜tells’ me her name when I look at her - Cindy did that.

Yeah - Shogun… the original series from the 80s… loved to watch it… Yet the new version wasn’t bad, either… Nice to see such a connection…

Well, the names for my dolls… First of all: when I started with dolls, I had to face the fact, that I am someone with a very vivid fantasy. So - in order to not get lost in fantasy - I had to find a way for me, to channel this fantasy to somewhere else. As I love playing with words, I decided to write a continuing story (you can find the english version here, yet the english translation is done by DeepL and far from perfect). And as I also love music, both - the story and their names - is connected with some music.

Let’s start with Amber - my first doll. When I saw her promo pics (the version, I ordered - including the wig) and thought about how her character should be in the story, it was that time, when Olivia Rodrigo was in the tunes with ā€œGood 4 Youā€. Whenever that song was playing, I had her in my mind immediately. And in the same time I had this picture of an early Avril Lavigne in my mind. Welcome, Amber - a cheeky, punky skater girl, who just needed a name which carries the sound of these attitudes. I had two names in mind: Amanda and Amber. Turned out to be ā€œAmberā€ in the end - with ā€œGood 4 Uā€ as her signature song.

Then there was Nathalie. Her appearance was somewhat nature-bound to me. She did not have this cheeky look, but rather left an empathic impression. As she is tanned, she must have come from a place with lots of sun - and pure nature. With her brown hair and ā€œAustinā€ by Dasha airing in that time, the character of a nature-loving twen being raised up on a horse farm in the US was in my mind. So I needed a name which carries nature, but also does not have a too modern sound. ā€œNathalieā€ was the first name, that came into my mind - and stayed there with her signature song ā€œAustinā€.

The character for Yasmin is still in development - though she probably won’t make an appearance in the story. Still searching for her signature song. Yasmin basically leaves pictures in my head of her being a quite intelligent student of science - biology or similar. Yet concerning the name, this one has been clear from the beginning - and is the first without inspiration by music. It is simply my most loved female name - especially in that special writing with ā€œYā€ instead of ā€œJā€. I always said - if I ever happened to have a daughter on my own, she would have been given that name. It never happened though. But as this doll is such a lovely appearance, she has been given that name, which simply carries all my admirance.

Harley’s name is just the name given to him by the vendor I got him from. Admittedly, I never liked the name ā€œHarley,ā€ but the only alternatives I could come up with were names of guys I had liked at some point. I didn’t want my doll to remind me of the unattainable, so I just kept the vendor’s name. However, he’s Chinese, and ā€œHarleyā€ is just his English name. His Chinese name, which was given to him by the manufacturer, is ā€œXiaomo.ā€

Josh’s name decision was fairly simple. I hated both the vendor’s name and the manufacturer’s name, but this time, I had a couple name ideas. When I saw the factory photos, I immediately felt that ā€œJoshā€ was the right choice.

Connor’s name decision was more complicated. Originally, I was planning to call him ā€œNico,ā€ but the factory photos didn’t click with that name at all. It ended up being a tossup between ā€œCalebā€ and ā€œConnorā€ until I unboxed him. His red hair was just too striking to not give him an Irish-sounding name. I also like the manufacturer’s name for him, ā€œEthan,ā€ so I decided to make that his middle name.

Mine are a mix of chance and predetermination.

Kim (Kimber 158DD), was my first. It is a nice name and nobody on the UK forum had a Kimberdoll called Kim. So I went with it. She’s been replaced and then upgraded to Deluxe but she’s still my Kim and always will be.

Caz (WM174G#198), my second was named for one of the most gorgeous women I ever saw on Plenty of Fish, who had an amazing resemblance to head WM#198. Caz is my attempt at a taller, slightly less thicc version of the infamous WM163H or ā€˜Jasmine’ doll.

Azrael (Caz wearing head #419) … well, if you don’t know the meaning of the name, go to mythology class; she is the Angel of Death! Can dress sexy, but spends most of her time in that costume I put together, partly inspired by ā€˜Knights of the Golden Sun’ by Mark London.

Carmen (Zelex Inspiration 170C#GE94-2); I wanted a ā€˜Carmen’ for so long and now I have one. Bit of a gym bunny sometimes but otherwise one of the sexiest doll models on the planet. Zelex were onto a winner there.

Finally Mei-lIng (WM175D#076). Always wondered what it’d be like to have a ā€˜hot Asian babe’ on the payroll, so bought her as the second head for Bast’s body. She’s a crazy cat lady, which will make sense when I shoot the set for the main head I got for that body (WM#418).

50% of my dolls are ex girlfriends names. Most of them were lovely girls. Reminds me of my youth.

Lets see if I can still remember it all…..

Jess - My first lady, and still queen of my heart- is the fantasy constructed around a very attractive till girl I once saw. Her name was Jessica.

Cindy - She’s a Cindy TeddyBabe classic and refused to be called anything else.

Pinky - Actually Penelope, or Penny, but Pinky because of her rosy pink plush.

Xiaoli - Originally she was going to be Mai, but just as I was arranging her plane ticket another girl popped up called Mai. A little searching and Xiaoli, meaning Little Jasmine, popped out of the internet. She is affectionately know here as Little Miss.

Kaia - My little Night Haunt. I knew she was a goth from the moment I saw her. She is named after a lady on YT who does Goth lifestyle vids, though that is were the similarities end.

Monique - She came to me from another member and retained her name, of course.

Maddie -Always loved the name Madeline and it’s shortened version. She gave me a couple of reasons why she should come live here, and she’s turned out to be something of a favourite with folks. No idea why…. She is also the only brown eyed blond to successfully stay that way, several girls have tried, but it never stuck.

Lexie and Sophie were both from funwest for review and so to keep things simple in the reviews and subsequent pics I kept the manufacturer names for them.

Neko is so named because she’s an Anime Cat Girl……. nuff said I think……

I never planned on having more than one (yea we’ve all said that lol) and apart from Emma i just pick names that I like. If I ever get any more I’m gonna struggle as im running out of names.

Back in the 80s I was a goth and one of my favourite bands was the sisters of mercy. They did a cover version of a hot chocolate song that I loved and to this day I still listen to. The song was called Emma and the name has stayed with me

This is a great question, as I am sure that everyone puts so much thought into each doll’s name.

Here are our stories:

April-May: My first girl was a custom Piper order that came from China on the slow boat (saved a few bucks with the slow shipping option). Her original arrival date was scheduled for early April, but we kept receiving shipping delay notices, so when I was asked when she would finally arrive home, I would always say ā€œApril … Mayā€. So, the name kinda stuck from there.

Amy (Ami): As April-May is a 140cm Piper Ariel, when our 100cm Piper Ariel arrived, the new girl exclaimed that she was just like April-May only smaller, so she shrunk April-May’s name down to Amy

Silver: This was straight forward. Silver is a Piper Eirian and Eirian (from the Welsh) translates into ā€œSilverā€.

Juno: Juno is a 100cm Piper Iris and she joined our family in June. Since she is an Iris model, we researched several names, and we found the following connections:
a) In Roman mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and a divine messenger who travels between the gods and humans and was often sent on errands by Juno.
b) In botany, Juno is a group of bulbous irises that were once classified as a separate genus but are now considered a subgenus (Scorpiris) within the Iris genus.
And since Juno arrived in June, the name was solidified.

Pini: Pini is an 80cm Piper Phoebe Elf so, with her little elf ears, I wanted to pay tribute to the creators of Elfquest, Wendy and Richard Pini. I loved those stories when I was growing up, so Pini had to be her name.

Eva: Eva is our 155cm Piper Elsa, and she was the first new doll to join the rest of the growing doll family at our new home, the Dollhouse. The Dollhouse is located in a recreational park called Green Acre Park. Before I took possession of our new home, I watched a load of Green Acres episodes, so when the first girl arrived fresh at Green Acre, I had to pay homage to Eva Gabor, so she became my Eva.

The Christmas Trio: On Christmas Eve, we were blessed with 3 new doll arrivals: a 100cm Piper Jessica, a 100cm Piper Akira, and a 100cm Piper Mai. As they were our Christmas Trio, we had to acknowledge that in their names. So, they were named Natalia (born on Christmas Day), Holly (the Christmas decoration), and Mary (for Mary Hatch Baily from It’s a Wonderful Life and Mary Cratchit from A Christmas Carol, and there may be another Christmas Mary that is slipping my mind).

Juliette: Naming our 150cm Piper Ariel (Dirty Blonde) was a challenge, only because she thought she was a redhead for her first 2 weeks of life. She didn’t feel 100% authentic as a redhead, and it showed. She thought she may be a ā€˜Cherry’ or something fiery, but it didn’t feel right. So, we tried on some black and brunette wigs and with her stunning green eyes, she came alive. And she looked so sophisticated, classy, and alluring, like the kind of girl you dream of meeting on your summer holiday in Europe. And since she arrived in July, she had to be Juliette.

Yoki: Yoki is the Smart Doll in our family. When I was planning a cruise to England, I wanted to bring along April-May, however, being only 140cm tall, British Customs would be a problem. So to avoid all that, and to not travel alone, I picked up a Smart Doll to be my travel companion. I also made sure to get an appropriate pink wig so that the Smart Doll could be a vessel for April-May. As she was a vessel, and from Japan, Japanese for ā€˜vessel’ is ā€œYōkiā€

Kendra & Kendra 2.0: The unseen dolls. The first actual doll in our lives was my ex-wife’s purchase. She found a great deal at a brick-and-mortar adult novelty story and purchased it. It was after that doll arrived that I realized that I needed one in my life (thus, April-May). She named her doll Kendra (after the next slayer in Buffy). This became my handle as I posted pictures of April-May (KendraAndAprilMay). I also picked up a project doll to perform TPE repairs on (150cm Piper Jessica) and she became Kendra 2.0. The OG Kendra is now at the Dollhouse, so there are actually 2 Kendras in my life.

Those are the doll name stories!
Thanks for reading.

Ok. I’ll just go with my current dolls. Not the ones who perished in a Storage Facility fire. Less said the better.

My Tayu 150c Katniss is named Ashlyn because… well… I googled ā€˜Pretty Girl Names’ and I liked that one best.

My Lusandy 170 Maya is named Katarzyna because I was a Russian Linguist back before The Wall fell and fell in love with the different Slavic languages, so to speak. Plus, I had returned from a vacation to Wroclaw, Poland and the Polish women were so nice and so, so beautiful (yes, even the portly old ones. There’s a beauty that just shines through.). So I googled (there may be a trend here) ā€œPretty Polish Women Names.ā€

My ordered (but not here yet) IT 161m got her name of River Nyx from me… yup… googling ā€œPretty Goth Namesā€ and picking her name.

Yes, I realize my Signature says I don’t have dolls, but a glitch in the matrix (forum) makes it so I can’t change my signature.

Roisin Shadowmere…

I love the name Roisin (Roe-SHEEN). It’s very Irish, and since Roisin is an Irish elf, she deserves an Irish name. I’m a big fan of Roisin Murphy and her music, that’s how I know the name, and so that was easy.

As there’s also something ethereal and soft about her appearance, I needed a fitting last name. I can see her move through shadows into other realms, and her blue eyes are like a crystal lake, and those two concepts resulted in Shadowmere.

Great question to ask, definitely something I always wanted to ask but never did  And big shout out to everyone who has replied too, loved reading them all.

Soo…

My first doll Ivy was name the manufacturer used for her and I didn’t think about changing it because I really liked the name and it actually suited her.

I named my second doll Sam because she reminded me an old high school sweetheart. Similar hair, with small breasts who was super into anything and loved being the center of attention of any group of guys around.

My third doll I named Jenny because my last girlfriend before I got married was named Jenny. She was a real tease and the doll has the perfect look of a tease. She also loved posing and getting nude whenever I had the camera out and my doll also has this look that screams at me ā€œget the camera out and take nudes to show your friendsā€.
