This will be an ode to my first doll, the one who started it all.
Though short in stature, in spirit none match her.
Feisty and fierce, with a gaze that can pierce
Even the coldest of heart, would feel passion jump-start.
After 3.5 wild years, sadly she succumbed to skeletal degradation, mainly due to a lack of or failure of the TPE plug. Here I will showcase my journey with her and my evolution as a doll enthusiast and photographer. From those first grainy pics with a borrowed camera, Sephonia cemented her place in my heart. Memory eternal.
After the first few months with Sephonia, browsing the forums and seeing many examples of beautiful pictures, I decided I wanted to also make nice pictures. First, Sephonia needed a makeover. Here she’s getting her nails done with her signature custom blue paint
Thx Fix. Yeah, hard way to learn about certain things that need attention paid to them to avoid major issues. Some things are fixable, others aren’t.
Before I was ready to dive into the photography world, I also needed to perform a full finger replacement. We’ll spare the gory details here and just show Sephonia being very pleased with the results
Once Sephonia had received the necessary repairs and makeover, I was ready to buy her her first set of clothes and get behind the shutter. I also got her a set of Easy Move eyes and eyelids, and a pic from this set is featured on Mannequin Fan’s website, very cool!
So now that I’d gotten Sephonia looking good for pictures and I was really getting into it all, guess what happens? The dark cloud of covid was coming and my free reign of the house to take pictures was getting cut short (I get about 5 months of the year in my living situation). I almost didn’t take this set as I had a hard time figuring out how to put the dress on but I prevailed and pulled an all nighter to get it done. I think Seph’s personality really comes through here.
From a photographer’s perspective, as I look back on this, the lighting was just the pot lights. They happened to be positioned well in my previous set, this time presented some challenges and no wonder I struggled to get a good take knowing nothing about camera settings and just shooting in auto. You mean you can’t just point and shoot and get a great picture?
Thanks @Jimmy_71, @Mr_Fix_it and @AdamandEmma, I was almost tempted to buy her again on a 25% off sale recently Really need to get to work building my underground doll bunker
Following my previous post, it would turn out to be nearly two years before I could get back into picture taking in any serious manner. Over that time, I took a number of bad cell phone pics. Sometimes she’d keep me company while I was on chat.
Thanks fellas. This sure is a trip down memory lane. I think I got one evening in 2020 with a few free hours to take some pics. Still learning how to do makeup at this point, and realizing anything with glitter can produce undesirable results in photography. Lighting provided by a lamp
